Sonification is the use of instrumental audio to convey information, or convert otherwise visual impressions to sound.

Free soundscape synthesizer and sequencer that lets you to draw your own grey-tone image and immediately hear the corresponding 64-voice polyphonic visual sound being synthesized on the fly. See and hear how The vOICe mapping works for your input. The 64-channel sound synthesis here maps the image into an exponentially distributed frequency interval for a one second visual sound.

Sound of traffic

Sound of Traffic is a Java "application" which converts TCP/IP header information into midi notes via the Java Synthesizer. The purpose is to listen in on network traffic in ordered time, via a tempo, rather than realtime, which could be more chaotic.

International Community for Auditory Display

ICAD is a forum for presenting research on the use of sound to display data, monitor systems, and provide enhanced user interfaces for computers and virtual reality systems. It is unique in its singular focus on auditory displays and the array of perception, technology, and application areas that this encompasses.
